Threw on a pair of sandals on my way to the store- strap was broken. I went to grab the pair next to them...they were a little big...I slipped my feet out to see what was up and saw dragons on the sole of the sandal...they were my 11 year old's sandals! My heart stopped for a moment. It was a 'Oh my GOSH - where has the time gone' moment. HIS FEET ARE BIGGER THAN MINE! I remembered when he was born and I would run my finger under his toes and watch them curl around my finger...I remembered his little feetprint poster they made at the hospital... I remembered his feet in the sand on the beach of San Diego when he was learning to walk....he hated anything on his feet - it freaked him out! I remembered when he was 3 - him prancing around in my shoes... I remember when he was five - his shoes filling up with sand from the playground because his shoes were just a little big. I stood there - in my hallway with my keys in my hand wondering how time went by so fast. I realized - that half my time with him as a kid was up!
Honestly, I think they should make a rule - that when the kids are 9 - God should call HALFTIME - so you realize it. I wondered when the next time I would have a moment like this would be...when I am leaving to get groceries for HIS apartment? When I do not have to buy groceries for him anymore? My point is this.... they grow up FAST - I MISSED half-time and am well in to the 3rd quarter... I sure wish that there were some things that I had done differently for him, but he is a good boy - very smart - handsome as all hell - very mature and kind - all and all, I think I did ok....but it just happened so fast and I wish I had more time than I actually do....

My shoes once too big for you, they swallowed your feet
Now I wear YOUR sandals & I suppose thats kinda neat
You make your own bed now... you bathe on your own
No more Barney talk, its Star Wars...something about a Clone?
You fix your own hair, you have your own way that you do it
You've got your own CDs, you are getting in to music
No more toys in the tub, no more patty cake games
No pretend rockets out of boxes - MOM, that's so lame
Hug in public? NO WAY! Also- Mommy's ‘MOM' now
SO much has changed, excuse ME- guess you're grown now!
I guess that you ARE - and I guess that's OK
Just wasn't prepared - for life to move fast this way
I hope that so far that your mom's done alright
It happened so fast - now I want to hold on tight
Come sit on my lap and let ME fix your hair
Tell me about whatever that game is you got there
Tell me about Star Wars and show me your WII
